Swan Lake

Canadian Premiere

Coastal City Ballet celebrates its 5th anniversary season with the Canadian premiere of Swan Lake at The Vancouver Playhouse and Surrey Arts Centre.

Schneider’s Swan Lake explores the human emotion of a romantic love contrasted against a realistic and practical love of an arranged marriage. Schneider is able to give us a story that is more relatable to modern day while maintaining the tradition and essence of the Swan Lake we all expect to see. The diverse talents of Coastal City Ballet along with the beautiful score of Pytor Tchaikovsky, glorious costumes and imaginative sets bring this heart wrenching love story to life. This full-length ballet, enjoyed by young and old, is a masterpiece not to be missed.

Coppelia

Canadian Premiere

Coastal City Ballet presents a new commission of ballet's great comedy, "Coppelia." Based upon two stories by E.T.A. Hoffman, and set to Leo Delibes' irresistibly melodic score, this comedic full-length ballet is choreographed by Irene Schneider, former Artistic Director of Germany's Magedeburg Ballet.

The delightful story of Coppelia is one of mistaken identity. Dr. Coppelius, the toymaker, has created a lifelike doll, Coppelia, and wishes to bring her to life. He believes his dream has finally come true only to realize he is caught up in a hilarious lover's spat. With Leo Delibes' irresistibly melodic score and Irene Schneider's inventive choreography, this is a ballet the whole family can enjoy.

Ballet Productions Canada presents Caostal City Ballet in Shakespeare's enchanting comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream. With delightful choreography by Irene Schneider, former artistic director of Germany's Magdeburg Ballet, this classical production set to the beautiful music by Felix Mendelssohn focuses on three parallel stories: the trials and experiences of two sets of lovers camping in a magical forest, the world of the Fairy King and Queen and their fairies, and a group of rough craftsmen attempting to stage a production of "Pyramus and Thisby" for the wedding of the Duke of Athens. Add in the mischievious adventures of Puck and the result is an evening anyone can enjoy.
