Coppélia
A family-friendly ballet full of wit
ON sale!

Coppélia is a beloved three-act balleT, originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon, with a lively score by Léo Delibes based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s short story Der Sandmann (The Sandman). It premiered on May 25, 1870, at the Paris Opéra and has remained a favorite in the classical ballet repertoire.
Set in a charming European village, we meet, Swanilda, the spirited heroine her fiancé, Franz, Dr Coppelius the toymaker and Coppélia, a mysterious girl who silently sits on a balcony. Unbeknownst to the villagers, Coppélia is actually a life-sized doll, created by the eccentric toymaker Dr. Coppélius. Determined to uncover the truth, Swanilda and her friends sneak into his workshop, discovering the doll’s secret. What transpires is pure chaos and hilarity.
The ballet concludes with a joyous village celebration of Swanilda and Franz marriage, with dances that are synonymous with Coppélia.
