Our History Coastal City Ballet is a repertory ballet company, based in the beautiful city of Vancouver, BC Canada, that provides performance opportunities for emerging dancers, both Canadian and international. The repertoire of Coastal City Ballet ranges from commissioned works in contemporary and classical ballet, to the development of story ballets. Company members maintain a daily schedule similar to that of a professional ballet company with daily class, rehearsals and scheduled performances. Coastal City Ballet is dedicated to providing dance to the Greater Vancouver area and throughout British Columbia, as well as the possibility of both Canadian and international tours. Since its inaugural season in the fall of 2011, Coastal City Ballet has successfully presented twelve productions to audiences in greater Vancouver and Regina, Saskatchewan. Productions performed include Coastal City Ballet’s first original story ballet “Hansel and Gretel” (2012), “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (2013), “Coppelia” (2014), "Cinderella" (2015), "Swan Lake" (2016), and "Giselle (2017), the staging of classical excerpts such as "Paquita" (2011), "Swan Lake Act II" (2012), "Les Sylphides" (2013), "Don Quixote's Dream" (2014), and "Le Corsaire" (2016), as well as commissioned world premieres by Wen Wei Wang, Joshua Beamish, Erica Trivett, Farley Johansson and Company founder, Li Yaming, among others.
Coastal City Ballet acknowledges that our “Vancouver” based dance company occupies the territory of the traditional, ancestral, and unceded homelands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples. We strive to prioritize expanding our knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities to be on these territories and to its Indigenous peoples in an effort to work towards reconciliation, equity and decolonization in our global spheres of the mainstream dance world.
